Amsterdam buzzed with excitement on July 13th and 14th, 2024, as the ENJOY AI 2024 European Open brought together a passionate group of young minds for a weekend of robotics competition and learning.
The event wasn’t just about who could build the fastest or most maneuverable robot. It was about fostering a love of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in a fun and engaging environment, preparing young people for future careers in STEM education.

A Diverse Set of Challenges
Over two days, students aged 4 to 18 tackled three exciting robotics challenges designed to test their robotics skills and creativity. The importance of hands-on learning was evident as students engaged in these challenges, fostering experiential learning and problem-solving skills.
The Closing Ceremony of Sports: This unique competition offered a futuristic twist on traditional sportsmanship. Students programmed robots to participate in a simulated closing ceremony, showcasing teamwork and innovation in a way that blended athletics with robotics.
Space Traveling: Geared toward budding space explorers, this challenge tasked students with piloting Eagle drones through a designated course. They needed to demonstrate precision and strategic thinking as their drones navigated obstacles, took off, and even performed object recognition tasks. This challenge also promoted critical thinking, encouraging students to solve complex problems and make quick decisions.
Space Animal City: This challenge went beyond competition, promoting environmental awareness and ecological responsibility. Students designed and programmed robots to navigate a simulated ”Space Animal City,” focusing on tasks related to animal conservation and building a sustainable future.

More Than Just Winning: Critical Thinking
The ENJOY AI 2024 European Open in Amsterdam went beyond simply crowning champions. It was a transformative experience that ignited a passion for robotics and empowered young minds to become future technology leaders. The focus wasn’t just on winning, but on fostering a love for learning, a thirst for innovation, and a commitment to STEM education and knowledge. Educational technology and computer science were integral to the event's goal of fostering a love for STEM.
A Community Effort in STEM Education
The success of the event wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of https://www.whalesbot.ai/, along with all the parents, educators, and supporters (PMOT, StichtingBeOk, WailSalutemFoundation), who volunteered their time and expertise. Their enthusiasm and commitment are a testament to the importance of fostering the next generation of robotics enthusiasts.
